COMMON TUTORING QUESTIONS
HOW DOES ONLINE TUTORING DIFFER FROM IN-PERSON TUTORING?
I tutor students through zoom. I assign a room for each of my students. This is where the student and I will meet weekly. I will share information, pictures, and activities with the child. The student and I will be able to interact with the screen.
You will need a computer/laptop, a camera (internal/external), and internet access.
I highly suggest students take their lessons in a quiet area but have an adult nearby.
Headphones and a kid-sized mouse are helpful but not required.
HOW LONG DO YOU HOLD YOUR TEACHING SESSIONS?
Reading sessions are 45 minutes. The length of the session is based on the child's age and needs. Sessions happen 1-2 times a week and are based on the assessment of the child.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO GET MY CHILD READING ON GRADE LEVEL?
This depends on the results of the learning speed of your child, frequency of sessions, and level of learning struggles present. This also depends on your child's effort and your support is very vital to this progress as well. A student may only need 3-6 months if they are 2 years behind their peers. Of course, this depends on the work done after each session.
HOW WILL MY CHILD'S PROGRESS BE MONITORED AND COMMUNICATED WITH ME?
After the initial assessment, I will develop a set of goals specific to the areas your child is struggling with. I will monitor it after each session. If requested, I can email a progress update monthly for your child. As the parent you can email me at any time with your questions or concenrs.
WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP IN BETWEEN SESSIONS?
This will depend on what areas your child is struggling in. I will email you information about what can be reviewed or how you can guide your child when he or she is reading after a session.
I highly suggest that every student spends time reading independently. This can be 10-30 minutes depending on age. I also highly suggest that a student be read to despite their age. Read aloud can take 10-20 minutes most days. Reading is a skill that must be practiced consistently.
Your child will have their own google classroom. There I will post helpful video, documents, or links based on what your child is working on in the sessions.

HOW DO I RESCHEDULE MY SESSION?
A session can be rescheduled or refunded up to 24 hours prior to the session. This is done through the scheduling system. If less than 24 hours, the session cannot reschedule or refunded.
